5 more must-see match-ups in the March to Macon

In each of our classification previews, we looked at the best overall game in the opening round of the state tournament. Here are five other must-see games in the Peach as we begin the March to Macon.

Southwest Macon at Laney: Regions two and three in AAA were the best regions in the classification, and they are also matched up against one another in the first round of the playoffs. This one features two of Georgia’s highest scoring duos: Laney’s experienced backcourt of Zep Jasper and Christian Keeling going up against Justin Slocum and Nick Hargrove of Southwest.

Rockdale County at Pebblebrook: It is hard to know what to expect form Pebblebrook, but one thing is for certain: they are going to score a lot of points. Collin Sexton is one of the nation’s hottest players and Jared Harper is doing what he has done over the last few years. Together they lead a big time Pebblebrook attack. Can Jalen Jordan and company for Rockdale County keep up with the pace? We will see.

Campbell at Tucker: Tucker is no stranger to deep runs into the state playoffs. This year, they are led by junior point guard Kenton Eskridge, who could really make a name for himself in this playoffs. Campbell and head coach James Gwyn have an experienced bunch led by seniors Laz Walker and Michael Olmert, who are looking to continue their careers another game.

Fayette County at Buford: Buford head coach Eddie Martin is in search of another successful playoff run in his first year as the Wolves head coach. He will lean on sophomore point guard Alex Jones to take the Wolves deep into the tournament. Fayette County, led by wing Noah Gurley, will be looking to spoil Martin’s first postseason appearance with Buford.

St. Pius X at Cartersville: A great matchup of head coaches between Cartersville’s Mike Tobin and Pius’ Aaron Parr. Each will play their style and lean on their stars in this one. For St. Pius, it’s senior wing Kerney Lane. While for Cartersville, it’s sophomore point guard Jaylon Pugh. This one could be fun if you are a basketball purist.
