March to Macon: 1-AAAA Notebook

ALBANY, GA — We spend a full day at the Region 1-AAAA tournament each and every year. Why? Because games are generally always intense, teams in the region are talented and there are players that play their way into the conversation.

BEST PLAYERS: SR PG Allec Williams (Westover), SR CG Tyree Crump (Bainbridge), SR PF Anfernee McLemore (Worth County), SR PF Brandon Moore (Worth County),

BEST GAME: Westover 61, Americus Sumter 52

STATE TOURNAMENT BIDS EARNED: Worth County (59-49 W over Albany), Bainbridge (79-48 W over Crisp County), Westover (61-52 W over Americus Sumter), Monroe (77-51 W over Dougherty)

LESSONS LEARNED

  • On a night where future SEC players played as well as you’d expect them to be, it was an unsigned senior that was not ready for his team’s season to end uncharacteristically end early that stood out the most. Allec Williams, the unflappable senior guard for Westover, 22 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a  pair of steals. When his team needed a bucket, he delivered. Williams scored well in the midrange in the second. He was great as a passer in the third quarter. In the fourth, he drilled three of his final four free throws and helped seal the victory. It was a great showing by the guard. He currently holds an offer from Georgia College and North Georgia is also interested.
  • The hi-lo game between Anfernee McLemore and Brandon Moore was working tonight for Worth County. McLemore was incredibly efficient. He scored 13 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, had seven blocks, dished out four assists and had three steals. Moore was the go-to motor man in the paint, scoring 24 points and grabbed five boards in the win.
  • Future Georgia guard Tyree Crump was dialed in from deep, drilling five of 10 shots from three. Four of those makes were from NBA range. Few guys in the class of 2016 are better off the dribble than Crump. His shot is a thing of beauty. Mark Fox will love using Crump in the halfcourt.
  • Bainbridge has a lot of length and got good production from Trevon Shaw (14 points, 8 rebounds), Myles Thomas (11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks), D'Anta Williams (10 points, 7 rebounds).
  • Monroe just unloaded on Doughterty, a team with a lot of raw talent. Napoleon Harris, an active and athletic 6-foot-7 forward, is an unsigned senior worth exploring this post-season. He was good in the nightcap.
  • Eye-catchers: Darrell Brown (Albany), David Quimby (Dougherty), Emeshaun Offord (Monroe), K’nautica George (Monroe), Eric Hall (Americus-Sumter).
