Kyle Young becomes a priority

In a battle with future Big 10 stars including Miles Bridges and Curt Jones of Huntington Prep, it was a junior wing out of the Buckeye State that shined the brightest. Suiting up with the Massillon Jackson High bunch, Kyle Young displayed all of the tangibles along with the intellect that has quickly made the improving junior a priority for those within the Big 10 and Big East.

Entering the game the prohibitive underdogs against the nationally ranked Huntington Prep squad on the floor at Morgantown High School in West Virginia, the Polar Bears made sure that the short trek south was well worth it. Kyle Young more than pulled his weight in leading the gritty and tough group out of Ohio with 18 points on the scoreboard along with timely passes, finishes, and handling the ball whenever heavier pressure was applied.

What does Young do best? There isn’t anything that immediately stands out but it is his composure, feel for the game, and intellect that shines. The 6-foot-7 combo forward type has a quality stroke from off the catch, can play various spots within the half-court offense, and displays toughness in coming up with the 50-50 ball and in scoring through the contact at the rim.

Due to the Jackson High star’s broad range of contributing skills and versatility on both ends of the floor, there is no shortage of interest or offers already on hand. “I have 15 offers. My latest one was from Michigan, which came last Thursday,” Young told HoopSeen.

While the junior forward is far from cutting down his list, there are a few that have prioritized him to date. “I am hearing the most from Butler, Michigan since they offered, Purdue, and Clemson,” the Buckeye State prospect said.

Where Young brings it on the hardwood, he also doesn’t lack in the classroom either, something that will play heavily into his college decision. “I am big on academics and I want to get a good education. Also, how comfortable I am with the school and that I get a good feel with the team,” Young said.

With a few more months before the always important senior summer occurs for him, it would seem that more offers will accrue as many of the best programs throughout the region will show a priority recruitment out with the improving and versatile forward out of the Canton region.
