LCC Monday Recap: Smile Generation Bracket
ACWORTH, GA – The opening rounds of the SmileGeneration.com Bracket of the Wellstar Lake City Classic gave us a chance to see some talented big men, talented unsigned seniors and a couple of impressive two-sport players. We recap the action from Monday at Allatoona High School.
RIVERWOOD HANDLES HILLGROVE IN LCC OPENER
Riverwood maintained their perfect record in the opening round of the Lake City Classic with a 57-36 win over Hillgrove. Unsigned senior forward Kohl Roberts was the standout for Riverwood, posting yet another double-double including a big 21 point effort. Elijah Jenkins also added 19 points for Riverwood and was a very effective complement to Roberts.
In the loss for Hillgrove, senior guard Demeirre Black led the way with 17 points. Riverwood advances to play the winner of Carrollton & Alpharetta, while Hillgrove will take on the loser . - Carter Wilson
CARROLLTON HOLDS OFF ALPHARETTA
Desmond Webb scored a game-high 30 points in a 58-47 Carrollton win over Alpharetta on rainy Monday morning.
Webb scored in two ways – at the rim and from the left wing for three. The 6-foot-4 guard pumped it in when he got into the paint. Webb is one of the better available scorers in the state of Georgia and should be primed for a big week of work here at the Lake City Classic.
Sophomore big man Tim Green was good on the glass and scored the point blank buckets in the second half to give the Trojans the insurance lead throughout the final 16 minutes of action. Green, a 6-foot-6 post, is long and intriguing and a guy that we look forward to seeing more of the rest of this week.
Alpharetta was paced by junior Carlos Carriere, who scored 10 points in a balanced AHS attack. - Justin Young
KELL’S SIZE TOO MUCH FOR WHITEFIELD
Kell used its interior presence of Brian Thomas and Jonah Patton to upend the pressure that Whitefield Academy has become known for to win their first round matchup at the Lake City Classic 59-53.
Patton led the Longhorns with 12 points while Brian Thomas added 9 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Thomas showed signs of high-level play after being sidelined by foul trouble in the first half.
Florida A&M signee Brendan Myles led Whitefield Academy with 24 points and junior point guard Isaiah Hart added 15 points and 5 assists. - CW
CALHOUN POWERS THROUGH NORTH COBB
Calhoun High School has been known to crank out the football talent in North Georgia. So, it shouldn’t come by a surprise that two gridironers stepped up for the Yellow Jackets in the second half against North Cobb.
Mercer bound quarterback Kaelen Riley scored 13 points in the third quarter while Wofford bound Jireh Wilson was a bully in the backcourt, scoring 18 points in the 61-48 win. The duo was too strong and too tough en route to the rim.
Junior forward Chapin Rierson was the most versatile player on the floor, scoring six points, grabbing nine rebounds, handing out three assists, collected a couple of steals and blocked a couple of shots.
North Cobb was led by the backcourt of DJ Render, who scored 22 points, and Kenny Ume added 15 in the defeat. - JY
