Jake Forrester becomes a name to know
The Kiski School has produced such college ballplayers in recent years like Drexel’s Major Canady and Virginia Tech’s Satchel Pierce. However, the program might have its best college prospect yet with sophomore forward Jake Forrester. Standing over 6-foot-8 and with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, while the recruiting world is just getting used to the Harrisburg native, the current and long-term production out of the hard playing big man could make the 2018 forward a top-100 recruit one day soon.
Getting another glance of Forrester this past weekend at The Kiski Classic, the high-motored big man showed off great, early production from 15-feet and in. Sporting great length and competing with a chip on his shoulder, Forrester isn’t afraid to bang around down low in carving out space on the low block and in creating the proper angle for the weakside rebound.
One of the better rebounders of the ball from in and out of his area, Forrester is good for double digit boards in any given contest. He can score with his back to the basket but seems to operate best out of high post sets as he can convert on the mid-range jumper and is a very deft passer of the basketball in high-low situations.
With shades of current Wake Forest star and also Harrisburg native Devin Thomas, the sophomore forward recently picked up his first offer this past fall, coming from Matt Driscoll, the head coach at North Florida and a Pittsburgh native.
Things haven’t picked up on the recruiting front just yet, though the central Pennsylvania native does have a good understanding of what he wants in a college program. “I mainly want a good education,” the Kiski star said. “I want to major in bio chemistry.”
Academics are definitely a strong suit of the sophomore’s as he made honor roll this fall and maintains a 3.8 GPA in the classroom. Having the desire to play in the ACC or Big 10 one day, it seems that if all goes right, Forrester should have more than the proper opportunities to compete at the highest level in a few years.
