To put into words just what Trae Young did this past weekend at the Thanksgiving Hoopsfest would be one of the more difficult things to do. The 6-foot-1 lead guard out of Norman North High School was phenomenal for his entire duration in Duncanville, Texas, where he was his usual, long-distance threat, but it was his uncanny abilities in the lane and passing skills in leading to easy buckets for his teammates that stood out the most.

The son of former Texas Tech star guard Rayford Young, the bloodlines definitely don’t run short with the Norman native. The junior standout had a quality travel season this past summer with the MoKan Elite bunch on the Nike circuit, yet it seems like Young has developed his game and hit the next level with things.

With one of the cleanest strokes in all of high school basketball and a guy that can consistently hit with his feet set out to as far as 30-feet away from the basket, Young has furthered his stock as a well-rounded lead guard. Showing off his own Steph Curry theatrics this past weekend, the entertaining guard made many more better decisions with the ball off the high ball screen, showed further discipline in guarding the basketball, and now better understands the time and place to score the ball and create for others.

Averaging over 38 points per game in his two outings at the Thanksgiving Hoopsfest, the recruitment of the Norman North star has been pretty steadfast throughout the past few years. However, a step towards a commitment seems to be in the works. “I am going to cut my list down to a final list of eight to ten schools in early December,” Young noted. “I want to make a final decision before the early signing period next November.”

While location could play into his future home with Young as having his family being able to come to some of his games would be nice, it isn’t the determining factor with him. Hence, it seems like Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, among others, look good in remaining in the hunt with Young after his soon-to-be cut list in the coming days. Regardless, expect for further progressions with Young’s game and physical framework as he continues to put up an argument for who might be the best lead guard in the 2017 class.
