Thanksgiving Prep
We’ll be out and about over the next 10 days for Thanksgiving week basketball. Here’s a preview for what to expect between now and Nov. 30.
PREP SCHOOL POWERHOUSES
Corey Evans is currently in New Haven, Connecticut for the National Prep Schowcase, one of the biggest and best tournaments of the year. The event features some of the top prep school teams in America. He is currently live tweeting from the event. Follow his account on Twitter and our HoopSeen account. Both feeds will have news & notes from the event.
STARTING OFF WITH A BANG
We’ll tip things off in Atlanta on Friday night at the Verizon Hoops For the Cure as Southwest Atlanta Christian and Griffin square off. This game should draw the college coaches as Deaundrae Ballard (SACA) and Tyshaun Crawford (Griffin) take to the court. Ballard is one of the best players in the state while Crawford, a 7-foot junior, is one of the most intriguing.
Also in the field: Kobi Simmons (St. Francis), Chris Lewis (Milton), Alex O'Connell (Milton), Kaosi Ezeague (6'11" Clarkson Academy), and more.
OFF AND RUN ‘N
The Court Cred Run ‘N Shoot Classic is Saturday at Berkmar and the event is well-stocked with high-level teams and players. Quality Education with Deshawn Corprew and Word of God with Rawle Alkins head down Interstate 85 from North Carolina for the event. West Oaks featuring South Florida commitment Andres Feliz is also in the field.
Gray Collegiate from Columbia, S.C. is in the event and will play Westlake. Gray has one of the best freshman in the country in Juwan Gary. Westlake is, well, loaded and one of the top teams in Georgia. Berkmar against Heritage pins Indiana-bound Al Durham against Isaiah Banks in one of the best match-ups of Georgia juniors.
STRONG GWINNETT FIELD AT JCC
We will post up at North Gwinnett on Monday and Tuesday at North Gwinnett for the Jared Cook Classic. The annual tip-off event is one of our favorites of the year. The highlight game on Monday is Greenforest against Lee (AL). A nice neighborhood battle of North Gwinnett and Lambert should be spirited.
On Tuesday, the JCC organizers set up a great pairing of 7-AAAAAA vs 8-AAAAAA regions. Collins Hill will play Central Gwinnett, Peachtree Ridge will play Archer, Duluth will play Berkmar and North Gwinnett will play Dacula. The night cap is St. Francis against Gainesville.
ARE YOU N2HOOPS? WE ARE
Shiloh, one of the top teams in Georgia, will be in the field. The Generals will have to work hard for the championship. The field includes Bob Jones, St. John Paul II, Grissom, Madison County, Hazel Green, Sparkman, Athens, Lanett, Murphy, Gadsden City, Pontotoc (Miss.), Southwind (Tenn.), Douglass (Tenn.), South Gwinnett (Ga.) and Blackman (Tenn.).
Garrett Tucker will be there for two days and will evaluate the Alabama players for the Alabama Elite Preview on March 5, 2016.
