2@2: Is Central-Phenix City the best team no one knows about?
Welcome to the 2015-16 season in the state of Alabama. The road to Birmingham has officially begun and we couldn’t be more excited to get things rolling. Every day for the next few weeks, our Alabama expert Garrett Tucker will tackle two questions at 2 p.m. CST about the upcoming season.

Who is the best team no one knows about?
This is an easy answer for me: Central-Phenix City. They have talent coming from every direction over on the Alabama-Georgia line. Central and the other teams in that area don’t necessarily get the love they deserve, but I have a feeling this team is going to make a statement this season.
As fa as I know, they have at least three players that have a chance to play Division-1 basketball. Tre Todd, a talented combo guard, will go down as one of the top scorers in the state this season. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on All-State lists at the end of the season, either. The Devils also have an intriguing big man in Tionne Williams. Our staff saw him during the summer on the travel circuit. While he was injured, the potential is definitely there. Another guy that is poised for a breakout season is junior point guard Demarkus Lampley. The 6-foot speedster has a great all-around game for a guard, as he can shoot, score, and distribute. His speed will cause problems for opposing teams in February, too. Justyn Ross (pictured), a star football recruit, isn't bad on the hardwood. He will also be a big piece of the puzzle for the Devils this season.
Don’t be surprised if you see Central-Phenix City playing in Birmingham in the 7A Final Four. They have the horses to take them deep into the state playoffs.
Who is the top AISA team in the state?
The Alabama Independent School Association (also known as the AISA) has some competitive teams year in and year out during the high school season. While things are a little bit different compared to the regular AHSAA teams, the organization still has good teams and talented players.
Restoration Academy and Bessemer Academy are quickly becoming two of the best teams in this division. However, some other talented players will have some things to say. Alabama State commit Reginald Gee is now at Edgewood Academy, and junior Trip Day is productive at Glenwood Academy. Lee-Scott big man Heath Huff is also a guy to watch.
The 2A class should be a competitive battle between Restoration and Edgewood throughout the season. Whoever emerges from 2A unscathed could be the best AISA team in Alabama, but 3A’s Bessemer Academy will also need to be considered.
