Who is the best rebounder in Alabama? 

Once again, it’s hard to argue with 2017 Spain Park big man Austin Wiley. Wiley is a consistent triple-double threat each night in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. The 6-foot-10 center does a great job of using his broad shoulders and body to pull down double-digit boards consistently.

2016 Jackson-Olin big man De’Nigel Scruggs is one of the best role guys in the state, and he does his work on the boards. Last year, Scruggs pulled down 20 rebounds in multiple games. He may be a little undersized for a center at 6-foot-6, but don’t tell him that. The senior will be one to watch this season, especially on the defensive end of the floor.

Kevin Morris, a 2016 big man from Dothan, uses his wide body as good as anyone in the state. Morris has proved he can compete and rebound with some of the best players in the country, as he performed well on the travel circuit with Southeast Elite. He does a great job of using his body to carve out position and give himself an advantage. He is another no-brainer on this list.

Jack Kline, a senior at Mountain Brook, is hard to keep off this list. His motor and hard-nose attitude makes him a ball magnet and he pulls down double-digit rebounds each game.

A guy that could take the next step in his recruitment with a productive high school season is 2016 Paul Bryant big man Matt Horton. He had a great showing at the Alabama Elite Preview in March and followed it up with some nice showings during the travel season. He is on the radar of many college coaches.

Who is the best point guard in Alabama? 

My favorite point guard in the state right now is 2016 Lee-Montgomery point guard Rod Scott. The 6-foot lead guard has a lot of similarities to Atlanta Hawks guard Jeff Teague. He does a great job of distributing the ball, scoring when needed, and providing a spark on the defensive end. His quickness and speed also separate him from other point guards in the state. Scott understands where the ball needs to be and can put it in spot where only his teammates can catch it. His three-point shot is still coming along, but his mid-range game makes him a dangerous player in pick-and-roll opportunities.

I also like 2016 James Clemens point guard Trai James. In fact, I think both James and Scott are the most underrated guys in the state. James doesn’t necessarily have the physical ability that Scott does, but he is very methodical with his play. James has a high IQ and rarely makes mistakes.

Other guys to consider: 2016 Cullman point guard Seth Swalve plays with tempo and can shoot it with the best of them. 2017 Sacred Heart point guard DJ Heath, one of the best perimeter defenders in the state, regardless of class. 2017 Central-Phenix City point guard Demarkus Lampley is one of the best players no one knows about. He can go! 2017 Winfield point guard Payton Stovall is one of the craftiest guards the state has to offer. He is one to monitor. And a young guy to watch is 2018 LeFlore point guard Nick Preyer. We haven’t released our 2018 state rankings yet, but Preyer will find himself in the top 10 when those rankings debut at the end of the season.
