Fastbreak Friday

We take a look at the visits taking place throughout the nation this weekend.

Fastbreak Friday

The volume of visits is slowly winding down as more and more prospects come off the board and programs across the nation begin to focus more of their attention onto the playing floor. Still, this weekend delivers some quality visits that are taking place which could lead to possible commitments that cause a giant domino effect with many others programs and recruits. The visitor of the week keys us into Durham, NC State hosts its own quality group, and we zero in on a few other potential prospects that may come off the board before the end of the weekend.

HARRY GILES CLOSES OUT HIS RECRUITMENT

The best player in all of high school basketball takes his last and final official visit this weekend to Duke. The 6-foot-10 alpha dog is playing out his senior year at the mighty Oak Hill Academy program but returning back to his native state of North Carolina this weekend, the end seems to be in sight for Giles. With a possible commitment date set for November 14, Duke gets the final shot at the elite big man.

Programs like Kansas and UNC have done their best with Giles but it would seem that it is a three-horse race for the Carolina native. Wake Forest and Kentucky are both in there really deep for him but with one of his closest friends heading to the ACC blueblood next fall in Jayson Tatum and a lot of connecting dots between Giles and Coach K’s program, this could be the final straw for the Blue Devils in finishing things off. One better believe that the defending champs will throw the kitchen sink at Giles in hopes of landing one of the very best prospects to come up through the ranks in recent years. If Duke can land the Winston-Salem native, the Blue Devils jump back into the top spot among the recruiting rankings in having the best class nationally in 2016.

COULD WOLFPACK ADD TO ALLOTMENT OF TALENT?

Gaining a commitment from Dennis Smith last month was a major coup for Mark Gottfried’s bunch. Now, the 6-foot-3 playmaking guard will have the chance to lure in other elite talent to the ACC program come next fall. A native of the state, the senior guard will attempt to keep another native of Carolina within the borders for his college ball in good friend and travel teammate Bam Adebayo.

Showcasing an elite motor, quality finishing skills, and consistent production on the hardwood, the 6-foot-9 big man would be a tremendous get for NC State. Programs like Kentucky and Auburn have been traced back to the High Point Christian senior in recent weeks and with War Eagle gaining some traction with him, it will be interesting to see what the coaching staff in Raleigh does in securing a verbal commitment from one of the best finishers in all of high school basketball. While there will be a lot of fireworks on the gridiron this weekend as the Wolfpack host Clemson, the basketball program will be shooting off their very own fireworks if they can secure a commitment from the elite big man that goes by the name of Bam.

COMMITMENT WATCH

Harry Giles is coming down to a conclusion with his recruitment and while nothing will occur this weekend, the next few weeks will bring a commitment where Duke has and should be the perceived leader.

Bam Adebayo’s recruitment has been all over the place but things have always drawn back to NC State, the program he is visiting this weekend.

Kansas State brings in two big men this weekend and while Arnaldo Toro is deciding between GW, St. Joe’s, and the Big 12 bunch, James Love is someone that could end up deciding on his future home in the coming days; La Salle is the other program to watch here.

The recruitment of Charlie Moore has gone on the backburner after a family emergency at the beginning of the month but now visiting California after seeing VCU last weekend, it seems a commitment will be received soon between the likes of the Pac 12 and A10 bunch, along with Memphis remaining in the picture.

Auburn brings in three of its commitments this weekend in hopes that Davion Mitchell, Austin Wiley, and Anfernee McLemore will aid in helping land top tier shot blocking and mobile big man Abdul Ado; Mississippi State is the other program to watch here with the Nigerian.
