3@3: Season housekeeping notes
With the high school season upon us in the state of Georgia, we wanted to tackle some housekeeping items in today’s 3@3. We dive into our underclassmen rankings - or lack thereof, the Power Poll and the Elite Preview.
When will the 2018 and 2019 player rankings come out?
Not for a while. It has been our policy to only rank players that are juniors and seniors in high school. So, the class of 2018 rankings will come out no later than the midway point of the 2016 travel season. The class of 2019 will be a year after that. There are too many variables that can happen for young players and we need a better body of work to have a more educated projection. Any rankings, to us, are just irresponsible.
How often will you update the Power Poll?
We will update the Power Poll by every Monday morning. The Power Poll is the top 20 overall programs in the state of Georgia (GHSA only) regardless of classification. We launch the Power Poll on the first Monday of December. We like to let teams play the games out and not set the opinion until after the games are played. What are the factors that go into the overall ranking of the Power Poll? Glad you asked. We consider win/loss record, strength of schedule, the eye test and, of course, our subjective opinion.
How do players get invited to the Elite Preview (March 12, 2016 at Suwanee Sports Academy Gwinnett)?
Our staff evaluates players throughout the high school season at games, tournaments, showcases and events. Players earn invitations based on their performance, prospect value, a recommendation from their coaches and intel gathered offline. Invitations are extended on Wednesday afternoons through our Twitter account. We will announce the invites this year through our new HoopSeenGA account.
The camp is for players that compete in Georgia high schools only. The camp is for players in the junior (2017), sophomore (2018) and freshmen (2019) classes. Unlike our open registration Fall Preview, the Elite Preview is invite-only and limited to 80 spots. We generally invite 100 players in total and registration is open upon players receiving an invitation. When a player is invited, information is shared with him, his parents and/or his coaches.
Our intent for the camp is providing a stage for the elite players to compete against each other on a stage with national media presence, led by the best coaches any individual camp can provide.
