2@2: Who wins Alabama's Mr. Basketball?

Welcome to the 2015-16 season in the state of Alabama. The road to Birmingham has officially begun and we couldn’t be more excited to get things rolling. Every day for the next few weeks, our Alabama expert Garrett Tucker will tackle two questions at 2 p.m. CST about the upcoming season.

Who will be named Mr. Basketball in Alabama this season?

Alabama Mr. Basketball winners have gone on to be very successful athletes at the next level – note that I didn’t say “basketball players.” Sure, plenty of talented players go on to play college basketball and beyond, but some excel in other sports. For example, former Wenonah forward De’Runnya Wilson was named Mr. Basketball in 2013. Now, the Mississippi State receiver looks like a future NFL football player. Dazon Ingram, William “Haha” Lee, Trevor Lacey, Craig Sword, JaMychal Green, Kerron Johnson, Stanley Robinson, Richard Hendrix, and Gerald Wallace ae among the winners of past years.

In my opinion, this one is a no-brainer. I think Madison Academy guard Josh Langford is the early favorite to be named Alabama’s 2016 Mr. Basketball. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard has everything you look for in a Mr. Basketball winner throughout his career: wins, championships, stats, and leadership. The triple-double threat is poised for a big senior campaign and could help land Madison Academy back-to-back state titles.

An under-the-radar name to watch will be Mountain Brook senior Jack Kline. The UAH-commit has been the poster child for Mountain Brook and Alabama high school hoops since his freshman year. His winning mentality and hard-nosed play make him a fan-favorite for everyone around the state. He has several state championships and I expect him to receive a good amount of votes come March.

Other names to keep an eye on: Javien Williams (Woodlawn), Reginald Todd (Blount), Austin Wiley (Spain Park), John Petty (J.O. Johnson), Josh Hill (Faith Academy), Darian Adams (Carver-Mongtomery), and Triston Chambers (Cold Springs).

What game are you most looking forward to seeing this season?

This is another easy question for me. It has to be Lee-Huntsville vs. J.O. Johnson January 29th at Johnson. For starters, this game will have plenty of Division 1 talent, and double-digit players will go on to play college ball at some level. John Petty, Justin Hopkins, Tracey Burnett, Malik Burnett, and Evan Wiley lead the way in this one.

This game isn’t just attractive because of the players it houses. The Huntsville showdown will also have a say in who is the best team in the Rocket City. Over the past few years, these schools haven’t matched up against one another. However, with Johnson set to close at the end of the school year, we will get to see one more high-level rivalry against the Jaguars and Generals. I have one game on my calendar for this season and it is this game, and rightfully so. It will be a memorable one.

Spain Park-Mountain Brook isn’t a matchup to sneeze at either. It comes in second to me.
