Kobi Simmons speaks on finals days of recruitment
There have been a lot of questions surrounding Kobi Simmons as to where things stand with his college recruitment. After recently narrowing down his college list to a final three, and visiting the trio of schools that encapsulate this list, Simmons remains patient with his college commitment, citing that he wants it to feel right with his future home of choosing.
A well-known name and talked about one at that for some time now, Kobi Simmons sports unbelieve size and length for the point guard position. He has gone through the gauntlet in leading his St. Francis School squad against some of the best high school programs nationally, while at the same time, having the ball in his hands during the most crucial of moments on the travel circuit running with the famed Atlanta Celtics bunch.
Getting a chance to take in a game of Simmons’ at a fall league event this past Saturday at the Suwanee Sports Academy, the 6-foot-5 senior displayed a brand new turnaround jumper from 15-feet, to go along with showing some consistency on his outside jumper, and as always, cool demeanor in the more heightened situations.
Down to UNLV, Kentucky, and Ohio State, we were able to catch up with the Peach State native following his down to the wire win as Simmons spoke on where things stand and what the future might behold.
UNLV:
“We have a good relationship with the coaching staff. They have a great atmosphere and great facilities off the strip of Vegas and the style of play, it is NBA-like with a lot of ball screens, up and down, and up-tempo. I like that.
After taking two guard commitments recently from Jaylen Fisher and Christian Vital, Simmons spoke on where things stand with a possibly clouded backcourt in Vegas.
“As soon as Jaylen committed, he hit me up immediately. He wants it to be like Kentucky when they had John Wall and Eric Bledsoe, that kind of duo. He knows what I’m going to do, so he wants me to come join him.”
Kentucky:
“There is a lot of upside about them. They’re great at getting guys to the league fast. They produce and win. Coach Cal, I feel like he is a great coach and he’s going to push you hard.”
Ohio State:
“D’Angelo Russell was there on the visit and so were Evan Turner and Mike Conley. D’Angelo was telling me about the experience and I would love to be there to experience the basketball and a college life like that.”
After visiting all of his final schools, Simmons is set on selecting UNLV, Kentucky, or Ohio State, yet a timetable for a decision has yet to be set. “Just when I am ready. Right now, we have a long season to go and I want to focus on that and just take it one day at a time. It is a big decision.”
When it does come time to decide, expect either the Runnin’ Rebel, Wildcat, or Buckeye faithful to be extremely excited in landing a supremely talented and versatile guard in the 2016 class come next season.
