Fall Preview Spotlight: Rayshaun Hammonds
At the Fall Preview, Rayshaun Hammonds showed off his entire package of abilities. The 6-foot-8 forward has ideal size for his spot on the floor where he can play either the 3 or the 4, but is productive in either position. It is because of his stature, young skillset, and versatility on the hardwood, that has already enabled for the junior to see a quality recruitment by many of the colleges nearby.
Attending the famed Norcross High School in Georgia, the Augusta born junior was quite the watch in Suwanee over the weekend. He seems to work best off the wings on the floor where he can hit from off the catch from deep, uses quality jab steps to get his defender off base before exploding by them for the slash and score, yet seems even more productive around the lid as he can sky for alley-oop jams and on putbacks off of his own teammates’ misses.
Hammonds has the innate strength already in line that makes him quite the stop whenever he stays aggressive. With the way that the new era of basketball is going with more versatile options at each spot on the floor and with guys that can all shoot the ball, Hammonds is the perfect 4-man. With this being said, Hammonds has already gathered seven scholarship offers from Georgia, Georgia State, VCU, Richmond, Texas Tech, FIU, and North Florida.
Such others schools as Alabama, Tulane, and Florida have also shown further interest with Hammonds, a guy that could explode onto the scene next spring as a priority, high-major recruit. When it comes down to it, Hammonds has a good understanding of what he wants in a college program. “I want the right coaching and will be looking at how they develop its players.”
If Hammonds can continue to mesh his ball skills, size, and decision-making more appropriately, the seven offers in hand should just begin for the Peach State native in becoming a top tier recruit from the southeast heading into his upperclassmen years of play.
