Isaac Kante begins the process
Big men that produce, play hard, and have the body in line, are always difficult to find. College programs take chances on guys that sometimes don’t pan out while others slip under the cracks for one reason or another and end up becoming lethal threats on the block from within the mid-level realm. One specific senior big man who hasn’t received the recruitment that he might deserve is in Isaac Kante, a 6-foot-8 center at Paul Robeson High School.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Kante is a very intriguing but productive big man from 15-feet and in. He has solid touch on his face-up shots and on hooks in the lane, can put the ball on the floor and score off of a few dribbles from the high elbow area, and sports added length and a fine motor in coming up with his fair share of offensive rebound chances along with rim protecting skills on the defensive end.
Due to his age, Kante actually played on the 16-under circuit this past summer with the NYC Jayhawks crew. The 17-under squad was bolstered by Mamadou Diarra, a 6-foot-8 big man who is headed to UConn next fall, and believe it or not, is the cousin of Kante’s. It is that same potential that led the Huskies in taking a commitment out of Diarra that might enable for things to pick up in the coming months for Kante.
On the recruiting front, things haven’t gotten going yet and a possible prep year could be in store for the big man out of New York. “To be honest, I don’t know yet. That is an option if I don’t get the offer that fits me. If I don’t, then I will take a postgrad year.”
St. Francis College was the first to dish out an offer to Kante following the completion of July, while Iona jumped in Tuesday with an offer of their own. Monmouth is another school that has begun to show interest, though things seem to be on the cusp of a breakthrough with Kante and his recruitment and it wouldn’t be surprising for a load of others to jump on board with the productive and efficient senior big man at Robeson High.
