Things are beginning to speed up quite quickly on the recruiting trail and it is not just with the senior class. On Wednesday morning, UCLA received a junior commitment out of Jaylen Hands, a super quick lead guard from the San Diego area. On Wednesday evening it was Wisconsin that struck in the 2017 class by picking up its own in-state commitment out of Kobe King, a 6-foot-2 guard from La Cross, Wisconsin.

A very versatile playmaker with the basketball in his hands, King fits the mold of the guys that have come to see great success in Madison. King can be used both on and off the basketball and can score the ball at all three levels on the floor. His body is beginning to fill out and his energy and focus on defense allows for him to guard either spot in the backcourt. The heir apparent for Bronson Koenig in the coming years, picking up a commitment out of the junior guard is a great way to jumpstart things after the recent hiatus with the head coaching position.

In speaking with King, the excitement jumped out right off the bat about why he made the early selection in becoming a Badger. “Everything about it down there, I love it and I knew that’s where I wanted to be.”

The question marks surrounding the head coaching situation at Wisconsin didn’t seem to scare the in-state recruit off and it seemed to be his love for the school and program that helped in popping early for the Big 10 program. “I love everything about them. The tradition, the players, it is just a great atmosphere.”

Wisconsin has mined the Wisconsin Playground Warriors program pretty hastily in past years as Brevin Pritzl, a current freshman guard, Bronson Koenig, this year’s go-to guy out top, and Sam Dekker, last year’s star on the Badgers run to the Final Four, all ran with the same program, a program that King also runs with during the summer months.

In all, the commitment out of King gives the Badgers another versatile, fundamentally sound ball player that should really flourish during his four years on campus at UW.
