Chyree Walker speaks on recruitment

A native of Fairfax, Virginia, Chyree Walker has become a name to know from within the 2017 recruiting class. Standing a 6-foot-4 but with a 6-foot-8 wingspan, the Bullis School wing is capable of playing spots 2-through-4 for his squad. Blessed with a quality physique, long arms, and super productive whenever the game speeds up, things look to be on the uptick with the recruit from the DMV.

While he was played at the power forward spot for his high school team last season, the hold up with Walker in the past has been with his jump shot. However, the Team Takeover product has done a great job of putting in some reps and has added consistency with it whenever his feet are set. Where Walker is at his best is in pushing the ball up the floor, playmaking with it below the arc, and exploding to the rim for the highlight dunk. Due to his size, energy levels, and long term upside, schools are beginning to take note.

Walker rattled off offers from UAB, VCU, James Madison, UCF, Old Dominion, Towson, and his latest two coming from Georgia Tech and George Washington. Recently, Walker took a visit to VCU, of who have done a great job of making him feel like he was a priority recruit as he noted that the Rams, Maryland, and UAB are coming the hardest. “I was really surprised about how big it was. I never really had been past the area.”

The playing style that Will Wade is looking to instill at the A10 program isn’t too far off from the Havoc style that Shaka Smart had become known for. Thus, the Rams coaching staff are selling him on the fit. “They are telling me that I am very versatile, aggressive, and play good defense which is what they stress at VCU.”

Still some time from coming to a college decision, Walker is looking for one specific asset in selecting a school. “Basically I just want to go somewhere that I feel comfortable.”

Heading to East Carolina this Saturday and then to Virginia Tech on September 7, expect to hear much more about the hard-nosed and athletic wing from the Bullis School now and down the road.
