Over the course of the AAU season, there wasn’t a more consistent point guard that came through the doors at Suwanee Sports Academy than 2016 Sarasota (FL) Riverview point guard D.J. Bryant. He made his college decision Monday evening with a pledge to UT-Arlington.

After a visit to campus, the 6-foot pass-first guard knew UT-Arlington was perfect for him.

“After going on my visit, it was like ‘why not UTA?’ The coaching staff and team is a hungry group like myself. The team has a family-like atmosphere and the way they compete, there’s no way that somebody wouldn’t want to be a part of that,” Bryant explained to HoopSeen.com.

The opportunity to win early is very intriguing to Bryant. The Mavericks will lose one senior to graduation next year. Nevertheless, he feels good about the opportunity to play as a freshman.

“They already have a great team. With me being the only freshman coming in, I feel like I can bring a lot to the table. I definitely feel like we have the opportunity to make things happen for the basketball program.”

A high-academic student, Bryant also sees a promising future for himself once his playing days in because of UT-Arlington.

“I want to major in business and UTA is the ideal place for upcoming businessmen with the corporations and plenty of ways to network.”

Bryant also considered scholarship offers from UT-Chattanooga, Bowling Green, VMI, Abilene Christian, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, and Coppin State.
