Battle of Gwinnett: Saturday Recap
We just finished up a great event here at The Battle Of Gwinnett with some talented teams a great players! Day 2 started with a dominant win for Mountain View, and we finished off with two gritty wins for Lovett and Cedar Grove.
MOUNTAIN VIEW 87 EAST JACKSON 62
We started the day off with a 1:30 tip-off in a matchup between Mountain View and East Jackson. This game was Mountain View from beginning to end. They have a guard heavy rotation, but they fly around, cause havoc on the defensive end, and turn defense to offense with their fast pace and what seemed like their philosophy to score early in the shot clock. Daelyn Wilson took home game MVP honors as he made winning plays all game. Wilson got going early mixing in a couple threes and solid drives to the basket leading to layups or setting teammates up. Liam Erawoc added 16 points as well to help Mountain View secure the victory.
LOVETT 52 COLLINS HILL 49
In our second piece of action on the night Lovett hung on to improve to 1-0 on the season with a win over Collins Hill. Early on, Collins Hill had it going and it was Lovett just hanging around trying to find their rhythm. However, once Cameron Cannon got it going, things started clicking on all cylinders for Lovett. Cameron had the highest scoring game of the event with 25 points. Cannon played with a ton of confidence, not scared to take any shot, and he knocked down a couple tough jumpers and layups. As he got it going you could see other players start to settle in and make winning plays helping them seal a big win over Collins Hill.
CEDAR GROVE 56 CENTRAL GWINNETT 51
To end the night we had two heavyweights that came out to play as Cedar Grove went toe to toe with Central Gwinnett. Central Gwinnett jumped out to an early lead finishing the first quarter up 17-12. Tennessee-commit Manny Green got it going in the second quarter for Cedar Grove ending the half with 9 points. Cedar Grove created some separation on the 3rd quarter, playing good team ball, winning 50/50 balls, and making open shots. Central went on a run towards the end of the 4th quarter to bring the game within 2 points late as Cedar Grove held on to win. Dwayne Lawton had 16 points despite the loss with a solid performance. Manny Green was the game MVP with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
We couldn’t have asked for the event to go any better than it did, with great games, coming down to the last possession .
