WHHG Fall Festival Notes
The group from Women's Hoops Hidden Gems has been hosting some first class events up at Suwanee Sports Academy this fall and today's lineup of games was no different. We stopped in for a few games today at SSA to check out some of the premier talent featured:
Hamilton Heights (TN) v St. Francis
2027 Giaunni Rogers - St. Francis
An absolute shot-maker. Consistent throughout the game in a close battle with Hamilton Heights, but Giaunni really shined in the final minute between the teams. Rogers hit a clutch top-of-the-key 3 to give St. Francis a 2pt lead and then with 25 seconds left she hit another from the wing to put them up 5 and pretty much seal the game. Throughout the game she was able to handle pressure with the rock & when playing off-ball she showed great movement and ability to use screeners to find open looks. The junior out of Alpharetta holds multiple High-Major D1 offers from the likes of Florida State, Florida, Wake Forest, Illinois, Pitt, SMU, Houston, Georgia, Texas A&M & Clemson. She showed every bit of why so many of these schools are vying for her commitment.
2027 Aila Courtenay - St. Francis
Really liked her effort, physicality, & leadership qualities from my initial watch. Standing at 6'3", she is a force to be reckoned with on the inside. Really impressed with her screening capability - great in a pick&roll & finishes well at the rim. Great effort & energy in the defensive side. She showed a willingness to hard hedge ball screens & momentarily switch onto guards to provide pressure, was unable to get a read on how well she can defend a switch in that situation. Dives on loose balls, energy provider on the court. Physical on the inside and uses swim moves to her advantage to clear traffic while chasing rebounds and open space. Ranked a 4-star on ESPN, Courtenay is a player I'm sure we'll be hearing more on as she currently holds multiple High Major offers from the likes of Pitt, Stanford, Georgetown, Texas A&M, Louisville, & Mississippi State.
2028 Kamora Moore - Hamilton Heights (TN)
A point guard whose skill pops off the page as soon as you begin to watch her. Moore is deadly in transition as she attacks the rim well & finishes strong through traffic. She also finds rim-runners up court and makes the right decision in uptempo situations. Doesn't get sped up easy due to pressure and is able to find open teammates in the half court. Kamora is another high-profile recruit and is currently ranked a 4-star on ESPN with offers from Providence, Arizona State, Mizzou, Clemson, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Auburn, Georgia Tech, & Georgia.
Newton v Midtown
The defending state champion Newton Rams came out and made a statement against Midtown. Intense defensive pressure and a team that looks ready to compete for another title this year...
2028 Jazmin Maddox - Newton
If there is one name that I'll end up following from this event, it's 2028 Jazmin Maddox. She did anything and everything Newton needed from the offensive and defensive side. Showed an ability to score from all 3 levels, through contact at the rim, mid-range jumpers off a pump & one-dribble as well as range shooting from 3 off a cut or just off a dribble if her defender as their hand down. In transition, she was poised and always in attack mode. Whether it was utilizing her spin move that she uses often, or flat-out being faster than her opponent - she was deadly in transition for the Rams. From what I saw, Maddox had the most impressive outing of the day and is due to be one of the top hoopers in the State of Georgia after a transfer to Newton from Monticello (Jasper County). Only a sophomore, she already holds multiple offers including ones from Dayton, Furman, SC State, Memphis, Tulsa, Mercer, George Mason. NAME TO CIRCLE.
2026 Devin Bockman - Midtown
Bockman is a name that many across Georgia are already familiar after a great 3 years at Midtown including a State Runner-up a few years back. Midtown went 1-1 on the day due to the play of Bockman along with teammates Hailey Wortmann and Journey Bryant. Bockman started the game off hot against Newton finishing at the rim and hitting a few 3's to kick the game off. Great balance and lift on her shot, has been a consistent part of her game for a while now. Was able to find teammates in open spots and made it a point to always make the right basketball play. Bockman recently received an offer from D2 Flagler of the Peach Belt & will be a name to track as she finalizes her college plans.
