GYBA Week 3 Recap

What a weekend it was here at the Georgia Youth Basketball Association! We caught this weekend’s action, and it was packed with young talent and great teams.

Top Performers

Johnson’s Inside Presence and Passing Shine in Mill Creek’s Victory

Ayden Johnson was unstoppable in the paint as he powered Mill Creek to a win over West Forsyth. Johnson led all scorers with 18 points, dominating inside with his physicality and finishing ability. However, it was his vision and passing out of double-teams that truly stood out, consistently creating opportunities and easy buckets for his teammates

Lipsitz Strong Play Continues for Johns Creek

Jack Lipsitz continues to be a spark plug for Johns Creek, turning in another solid performance against Mill Creek. Lipsitz’s speed and control in transition allowed him to consistently break down the defense, finish at the rim or spray flashy passes to open teammates. His maturity at this age on the court will be something that really benefits him in the long run as he moves into high school.

Coblentz Dominates the Paint for North Gwinnett

Colton Coblentz was a force to be reckoned with as North Gwinnett secured a big win. Coblentz owned the glass on both ends of the floor, racking up multiple second-chance points and finishing with a game-high 20 point double-double. His relentless rebounding and presence in the paint was too much for the other team to handle. Colton’s game will be fun to watch as he continues to develop.

Aziah Bowles shines for Central Gwinnett

Aziah Bowles had a show stopping Sunday at the GYBA. He is an extremely crafty ball handler and scorer that can put the ball in the hoop from virtually anywhere on the floor. He finished with 18 points in a big win over Northview on Sunday, to keep his Central Gwinnett squad in the top 3 moving into Winter break.

HoopSeenW Top Performers

Our girl's division proves week after week to showcase some high-level talent. Here are just a few we saw this past weekend.

Denmark edged out South Forsyth in our 7/8th Grade division on Sunday behind a monster performance from Harmony LaMark. LaMark was on fire and relentlessly attacked the win to help secure the win for her team. She finished with 17 of her team's 30 points.

Milton 8th Grade girls continued their dominant run this weekend to remain undefeated. Quinn Brinker was magnificent on Sunday on both ends of the floor. Her high-level defense led to some easy baskets, as she finished with 13 points in the win.

Berkeley Downey caught the eyes of our media team on Saturday at the GYBA. She led her undefeated Lambert 5/6th Grade team to a win against Collins Hill. She is a do-it-all guard, who loves getting out in transition and finding her open teammates. She also finished with 14 points of her own.

Team Performances

Hebron Christian Outlasts Grayson in Defensive Battle

Hebron Christian pulled away late in a defensive battle against Grayson, where both teams struggled early, combining for just 5 points in the first quarter. The game opened up in the second half as Terrence Nelton and Dylan Fife found their rhythm, combining for 27 points and leading Hebron to a hard-fought 40-33 victory. Nelton and Fife stepped up as Hebron’s usual dominant duo struggled with foul trouble and getting shots to fall, having these two to rely on when your main players can’t get it going is going to be dangerous for the rest of GYBA as the season continues.

Gainesville 8th Keeps Rolling

Gainesville Middle School 8th Grade Boys keep their undefeated season alive with two big wins this weekend. On Sunday, they took care of Johns Creek in a complete team effort. Sharpshooter Henry Cato led them with 15 points including several distance three pointers, while Konner Hall & Zain Rahman added 13 points each, doing the majority of their damage attacking the basket. At the winter break, Gainesville looks to be a team to beat in the division.
