2024 Alabama Fall Preview: Top Performers, Part II
The 2024 version of the Alabama Fall Preview camp is officially in the books and this year’s group came on strong on Saturday at Homewood High School. With some high-level talent and depth, there’s a lot to digest from the action.
Following the event, we polled our coaches and staff on their top performers from the day. Meet the second wave of top performers from the event...
RELATED: Top Performers, Part I
Austin Coner, 2025 CG, Pinson Valley: Last year Coner came to the Fall Preview and was dubbed a top performer. Following the event, I admitted that I had missed the boat with him as a prospect. Well, it seems college programs are still missing the boat with him because I thought he was one of the best seniors – and overall performers – from the event. Coner has grown a few inches to 6-foot-4 and it’s only added fuel to his fire. He was a nightmare on defense, using his length and versatility to cause deflections and guard multiple positions. The Pinson Valley guard can make contested shots at a high level, too. I’m shocked more Division I programs aren’t knocking on his door. He’s a future bracket buster in my opinion.
Fred Derrick, 2025 PG, Buckhorn: Coming into the Fall Preview, I don’t think a player had a bigger target on his back than Derrick. After winning back-to-back state championships and earning a state tournament MVP award from teammate Caleb Holt, Fred is one of the most recognizable players in the state. Well, he rose to the occasion on Saturday and was typical Fred throughout the day. The steady floor general controlled the pace of the game with his calming demeanor and patience. But when opportunities presented themselves, Derrick took advantage, whether it was making strong finishes at the rim with defenders on his back or converting three-pointers off the bounce. If you’re looking for a point guard to run the show at the next level, your list has to include Fred Derrick. He moves the needle.
Gage Mayfield, 2026 PF, Hale County: I’ll be honest here – I’m not sure someone in the gym excited me more than Mayfield this weekend. The 6-foot-8 big man has all the physical tools that you look for in a Division I 4 man: he’s got the length, the athleticism, and motor that differentiates him from his peers. The Hale County product asserted that dominance at camp, sprinting in transition and finishing above the rim while also contesting shots on the defensive end of the floor. There’s a lot to work with here and I expect a number of college programs to track Mayfield during the high school season. He’s a top five player in Alabama’s 2026 class.
Jeremiah Williams, 2026 CG, Ramsay: It was another quality day of action for ‘Curl’ Williams. The skilled guard continues to show improvement with his all-around game. On Saturday, his defense shined with several steals that led to easy baskets. Nevertheless, Williams is always going to have a target on his back because of his shooting ability. The junior isn’t afraid to let it fly, as he knocked down several deep shots throughout the day. While he is hovering around the 6-foot mark, several coaches mentioned his potential as a 3&D type player.
Jeremiah Wilson, 2026 CG, Buckhorn: It was nice to see a healthy Jeremiah Wilson on the floor this weekend. The Buckhorn senior battled the injury bug for parts of the summer, but he looks refreshed and ready to go as the high school season is knocking on the door. The smooth lefty played with a high motor all day and made some high-flying finishes at the rim in transition. With his ball skills, shooting ability, and length, Wilson is one of the top available seniors in the state and he played like it at the Fall Preview.
