Lipscomb picks up commitment from Huntsville guard J.D. Gossett
The Fourth of July week has been a good one on the recruiting trail for Lipscomb and head coach Lennie Acuff. After landing a commitment from wing Josh Scott earlier in the week, 2025 Huntsville (AL) guard J.D. Gossett made his pledge to the Bison on Friday.
”After a lot of prayer, I had peace that Lipscomb is the place God has for me,” Gossett said following his commitment. “I grew up going to Coach Acuff’s camps and I know being able to play under him will be a blessing and allow me to grow in both my basketball abilities and in my relationship with Jesus.”
Gossett, an ultra-versatile 6-foot-5 combo guard, earned a scholarship offer from Acuff less than a month ago after competing at Lipscomb’s team camp. There’s a lot of individual attributes that make him an intriguing piece, but make no mistake about it — Gossett is the ultimate winner. He’s a Swiss Army knife that makes considerable contributions on both ends of the floor.
As Gossett noted, he and his family have a longstanding relationship with Acuff. He attended several of Acuff’s youth camps while he was the head coach at UA-Huntsville.
”I’ve always respected Coach Acuff’s character and what he’s all about. I have such great memories of his camps when I was little. I even remember some of his quotes he would give us at those camps.”
With his college decision officially behind him, Gossett will now turn his sights toward the rest of the travel season. The Alabama Fusion qualified for Peach Jam after winning the Nike EYCL bracket, so Gossett and his team will be in action this week in Augusta.
Gossett chose Lipscomb over a scholarship offer from Central Arkansas and interest from a variety of other programs such as Belmont and South Alabama.
