Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions: Griffin Elite takes home the 17U title
Griffin Elite cap off an undefeated weekend as they beat Team Scoot TJ 81-67 to claim the 17u Anthony Edwards Championship at Bob Gibbons TOC on Sunday afternoon.
Maddox Huff led the way for Griffin Elite with 19 points along with 3 threes, he shot the lights out all weekend. Jonah butler and Hayden Blakeman combined for 28 points both scoring 14. Despite the loss Chris Mclavish had himself a game dropping 30 points on 5 threes. His 2nd tournament in a row putting up 30 in the championship game.
It was back and forth in the first half, Griffin Elite led 41-35 at halftime. Maddox Huff was in a groove posting 13 points at the half. Chris Mclavish was keeping it competitive scoring 18 points with 3 first half threes. Griffin Elite began to pull away 5 minutes into the 2nd half eventually making it a 16 point game with 11 minutes to go. Team Scoot slowly began to chip away at the lead making it 68-58 with 6 minutes to go. However Griffin Elite always seemed to have an answer never letting them get within single digits, keeping a 10-16 point lead the remainder of the game. Team Scoot couldn’t keep up with the strength down low that big man Cannon Young brought to the table. As well as an endless barrage of threes that Grififn Elite let off. Not many teams can shoot the way they do.
No better way for Maddox Huff to cap off an exceptional weekend than a Championship win at Bob Gibbons. Huff put on some of the best shooting displays I’ve seen, scoring 28, 36 and 38 points throughout the weekend. He put a lot of people on notice this weekend.
