Summer Jam Spotlight: Shamarkus Kennedy
By Kory Keys
This wasn't 2016 Shamarkus Kennedy's first trip to Suwanee Sports Academy. No, the 6'7" prospect out of Tuscaloosa, Ala.'s Northridge High School was here for Gibbons with Southeast Elite. Playing with Tuscaloosa Magic this weekend, Kennedy is at it again.
The big man went for 13 points in his early game Friday after dropping 14 points in his Summer Jam debut Thursday night. College coaches have started taking notice.
Kennedy hasn't been offered yet, but he claims interest from Murray State, Texas-Pan American, Tennessee Tech, Chattanooga, Richmond, and Saint Louis.
"Because I'm a stretch four with a good vertical for my size," Kennedy said in regards to why colleges have begun to take notice. "And I'm a real good shot blocker."
It didn't happen overnight, though. Kennedy said he's added to his game since the high school season ended.
"I've gotten stronger since the start of April," Kennedy said. "And I've been more active on defense and offense."
As he continues to refine his game, don't be shocked as Kennedy continues to draw more and more interest from low-major and mid-major programs.
