2025 wing Brayden Rivers emerges at Lighthouse Classic
If you’re familiar with high school basketball in Alabama, you’ve probably heard plenty of noise regarding the Huntsville Panthers this season. They have one of the best lineups in the state that does a nice job of complementing star power with depth.
Samford signee Caleb Harrison and junior sharpshooter Simon Walker have received a lot of the headlines to this point — and they’ve earned it, too. But if the last week is any indication, they may have another intriguing player emerging.
Enter Brayden Rivers.
Rivers, a strong, 6-foot-7 wing man, put together an impressive game last week at the Lighthouse Classic as he led Huntsville High to an impressive win over Lafayette (LA) St. Thomas More.
Throughout the course of the game, Rivers showcased his all-around game. He scored a career-high 24 points on 4 of 7 from behind the three-point line while also grabbing six rebounds. The junior showed his efficiency and made shots from every level. He also made a statement with a huge baseline dunk on a defender that really got things going.
“My teammates gave me opportunities to score and make some shots, so I have to thank them,” Rivers told a group of media members following the game. “I really feel like this is a confidence booster for the rest of the season. It gives me the confidence that I can go out and do it for the rest of the year.”
Rivers followed that up with another strong performance on Thursday at Mountain Brook, posting a 20-point, 7-rebound performance. He also knocked down four more three-pointers in Huntsville’s win.
Rivers really picked up steam during the June scholastic season. In fact, he may have been Huntsville’s most impressive player for the majority of the month, torching the nets with his shooting ability. During that time, he landed scholarship offers from Jacksonville State and South Alabama.
“I’ve talked to Belmont, Murray State, Troy, Tennessee Tech, Kennesaw State, Radford, and Furman. They’ve all been showing interest,” Rivers told HoopSeen.com.
More offers and interest could be on the way, especially if he continues to make shots at an efficient rate like he’s been doing recently. It also doesn’t hurt that he sports a 32 ACT score, and that should open even more doors going forward.
The opportunities are plentiful going forward, too. Huntsville has a competitive schedule over the next few weeks, including games against Hoover and Central-Phenix City, the two teams that matched up in last year’s 7A state championship game.
