2023 Elite Preview: Team 1 Evaluations
SUWANEE, Ga.—After an elite Sunday at HoopSeen’s Elite Preview, our staff is turning their attention to their keyboards as they crunch away at individual team breakdowns.
After gathering notes from staff members, camp coaches and other affiliates, we have evaluations for every player that was in attendance.
Let’s start with the players who made up team one.
Crawford has impressed in the past with Team Scoot. The early chapters of his HoopSeen story are unfolding nicely. He added to them with a positive showing at the Elite Preview on Sunday. Crawford showed off some of the athleticism he’s known for at the PG spot. Throughout the afternoon, he showed that he can be counted on to hit a tough shot. Crawford has done nothing but impress during his early career. - Josh Tec
When I saw Miller playing up in the 15U division as a 2027 PG, I saw a player that had something. He got an invite to Sunday’s camp based on what I saw in the summer, and he showed a lot of those positives on the big stage. Miller is a high-IQ guard with good instincts, and he showed that all afternoon. He saw the floor well and looked to get everyone involved. Miller showed some wiggle with the ball and was able to get to his spots well. When trusted basketball people say, “he can play,” that’s positive reaffirmation that Miller gets it. - Josh Tec
Dickens has plenty of potential. He has a chance to be someone that continues to emerge as a prospect and has us reflecting back on this camp as our first experience seeing him. He’s a gig, long guard that played with a high motor and did his part on the glass.
Johnson had some highlight moments with the ball in his hands throughout Sunday. He was able to get into the teeth of defense consistently and showed that he can score in traffic. With his ability to create off the bounce, Johnson has promise as a PG as his game continues to round into form.
Conley had an impressive afternoon. Coming down from Tennessee, he showed that he has plenty of game to love. Conley has a leadership quality about him that can make him a coach’s dream and a great PG. He can create his own with an impressive step back, communicator, shooter. Conley consistently showed his feel by making good reads and passes. - Josh Tec
Thompson was one of the breakouts of the day. The 6-foot-6, 6-foot-7 wing looks poised to have a big high school season. He showed shooting touch with range. Thompson consistently made shots from deep throughout the afternoon. Thompson was aggressive, assertive in attacking the basket too. He didn’t settle for shots often and sought the rim successfully all day. He has upside as a defender as well. - Josh Tec
Heggins was one of the standouts from HoopSeen’s Fall Preview a little over a week ago. The 2027 forward proved himself again going against like size and talent. His motor and competitiveness immediately stood out. He was tremendously active on both sides of the ball. Heggins looked to dunk everything and was a strong defender when going against bigger opponents. - Josh Tec
Johnson is a forward that could keep progressing into a name we hear more from in the future. Only a class of 2027 big man, Johnson has a big body that he used to his advantage around the basket. He also showed some touch away from the painted area.
