2023 Elite Preview: Top Performers II

SUWANEE, Ga.—HoopSeen’s Elite Preview is an annual tradition that pits several of the south’s best freshmen and sophomores against each other.

It’s a story starter for some, it’s another notch in early resumes for others.

We’re opening our coverage of the day by celebrating some of the top overall performers as elected by our staff and camp coaches.

This was my first time seeing Wise, and what a first impression he made. His game is so smooth. Things come naturally to him on the floor. Immediately, his 3-point shot stood out above all else. He was easily among the best shooters in the gym. Other than shooting, Wise glided to the rim and showed good feel with the ball. He’s a freshman from the Athens area that should gain some buzz this winter. - Josh Tec

Saragba is a beast, straight up.The 2027 forward has a chance to be a special player. He played with so much power whether he was driving from the wing or catching around the basket. Sure, there’s still a youthfulness to his game, but those parts get overshadowed by his upside. Saragba is athletic, physically advanced and long. He was one of the most projectable players in the building. An easy name for coaches and our national peers to tuck away in their back pockets. - Josh Tec

There’s a lot to like about Curry right now, but, man, it’s exciting to think about his future, too. The 6-foot-4 freshman showed he can play both guard spots throughout the day. His skill-set, basketball IQ, and cerebral play are all top-notch and his competitive nature takes it to another level. From watching him for one day, his desire to win is evident. If that competitive spirit fuels him during his high school career, he’s got a chance to be a promising perimeter prospect… and he may end up growing a few more inches, too. - Garrett Tucker

Man, Julius generated plenty of buzz on Sunday. The 6-foot-9 eighth grader—yes, you’re reading that right—is pretty raw and putting the pieces together, as one would expect, but he’s clearly got something other than just being a big body. Julius worked on ball handling independently between his games. That work circulated throughout the gym as people noticed. During games, he was a force around the basket on both ends. He dunked everything, rebounded, contested shots, and generally did what one would want a big to do. - Josh Tec

Once Kelly got settled in, he showed off a lot of what we loved out of him during the travel season. His second game of the day saw him get into a rhythm, he can score with the best of them. He’s especially good as a slasher and as a finisher, but he can get it done from all levels. We had a feeling that we’d see a good day out of Kelly, but when some of the camp’s coaches started coming up to us and mentioning him as a standout before scrimmages had even started.
