This week’s Fastbreak Friday is absolutely stacked. There are high level visitors from coast-to-coast and from border-to-border. In this week’s column, we look at a couple of power conference schools and who is coming to campus, a number of notable visitors and even identify some players who could be on the commitment radar. 

Let's start the break. Shall we?  

CAMPUS OF THE WEEKEND: Kansas

Late Night in the Phog is one of the hallmark events on the fall recruiting calendar, and Kansas is hosting its preseason hype party this weekend. 

Three top-100 visitors are scheduled to attend. Flory Bidunga (already committed), Rakease Passmore and Billy Richmond make up a talented senior trio that will be spending the weekend in Lawrence. 

While No. 1 Cooper Flagg cancelled his visit that was scheduled for this weekend, Kansas isn’t hurting too badly. 

Bidunga and point guard Labaron Philon already give the Jayhawks two top-35 commits. Landing Passmore or Richmond would add another top-35 prospect to the class and would likely cement Kansas’ 2024 class as one of the best in the country. 

CAMPUS OF THE WEEKEND II: Georgia

Georgia is reportedly hosting a pair of five-stars in Derrion Reid and Asa Newell. It’s not every weekend that the Bulldogs have that kind of talent come through on the basketball front. 

How attainable is this duo for Mike White and company? Very. 

In fact, if I had to bust out the crystal ball, I’d favor them both to wind up in Athens. 

Reid checks in at No. 9 in the 2024 class. Georgia made his final three which includes Alabama and Florida State. Prior to transferring to Prolific Prep for his senior season, Reid came up playing at Grovetown (GA) High School. His ties to the Peach—and to East Georgia more specifically—could be the deciding factor here. 

Newell is No. 16 on the HoopSeen 2024 rankings. His connection with Mike White goes back to White’s time at Florida. Newell is a native of the Sunshine State, so their relationship goes back a few years.  

JOSH TEC’S VISITOR TO WATCH: Rakease Passmore, Kansas

Passmore just recently announced his top four, and the Jayhawks made the cut. Pairing that with his visit to Late Night in the Phog is enough to generate a wide-eyed zoom in on his visit. 

An additional bit of fun information for those who dig into the weeds is that Passmore spent a lot of time with recent Kansas commit Labaron Philon because they played on Team Thad together and travelled across the country to the summer’s most celebrated elite camps together. 

JUSTIN YOUNG’S VISITOR(S) TO WATCH: Nik Khamenia, Gonzaga (2025)

The wing forward from the powerful Harvard-Westlake program is one of my favorite players in the West’s loaded 2025 class. He’s been a come-up guy for quite some time and just keeps stacking good seasons on top of each other. 

It makes perfect sense that Gonzaga has thrown their hat into the ring for the Southern California kid. He’s built in the blue print of the type of hoopers that Mark Few has recruited to Spokane. 

PEACH STATE TRIPPERS

2024 G KJ Greene is scheduled to take one of his final visits to Florida State this weekend. As his tour winds down, we’re keeping eyes on him for a commitment. 

Greene ends his tour next weekend with a visit to South Carolina next weekend. 
2024 F Braedan Lue is reportedly going to Georgia State for a visit. The Panthers have a great track record of keeping in-state talent home, so this is one to keep an eye on.
