Samford lands in-state commitment from Caleb Harrison
2024 Huntsville (AL) big man Caleb Harrison, one of the travel season’s biggest stock risers, committed to Samford and head coach Bucky McMillan on Friday.
“After visiting Samford I loved it and loved the staff even more. It really seems like a place that will feel like home and where I can succeed in the coming years,” Harrison told HoopSeen.com. “It’s a great fit on and off the floor for both me and my family.
Harrison averaged 15 points and eight rebounds for Huntsville last season en route to being named to the HoopSeen 7A Second Team All-State. He carried that over into what was an impressive travel season with Pro One on the Under Armour Rise circuit.
The 6-foot-9 power forward showcased his overall skill-set and versatility throughout the spring and summer, as college programs were intrigued by his ability to score from all three levels, make quality passes, and compete at a high level. Harrison and the Samford coaching staff think he will fit right in once he steps on campus.
“Coach Bucky has turned the program around since he took over and will continue to improve it in the future. They have done a great job developing people at my position to be super-successful players in their career. Staying close to home and in Alabama was a huge draw to them as a program for me and my family.”
Harrison chose the Bulldogs over scholarship offers from Belmont, Davidson, Lipscomb, Loyola-Chicago, Richmond and Troy, among others.
The rising senior becomes Samford’s first commitment in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
