2024 PG Sebastian Akins talks 1 of 1 success, recruitment
2024 point guard Sebastian Akins has been one of the year’s risers with 1 of 1 Elite. On a team with high-level athletes, Akins has been the floor general that puts everyone around him in the best positions for them to be successful. He can also take on the role of a primary scorer.
Saturday afternoon at HoopSeen’s Best of the South saw Akins show off his game in front of baselines filled with coaches from all levels when he led 1 of 1 to a win with 19 points (5-6 from three) and 6 assists.
“I can be a true point guard,” Akins said. “I can lead a team. I can put everybody in position. I can control a game. That’s all I want to show people.”
Akins’ play has caused a spike in his recruitment since April. IUPUI, High Point and Winthrop have offered while App State, Niagara, UMass-Lowell, Towson among others have been in contact.
“It’s a dream, really,” Akins said. “I just want them to see what I can do…it’s been a dream come true, for real.”
With Akins’ recruitment materializing, he already has an idea of what he’s looking for at the next level.
“A school that wants me, really,” Akins said. “A school that’s going to show me that I can be more than just a basketball player, help me academically, be a better person. A school that’s going to develop me as a person and a basketball player.”
During the rest of July, Akins is keeping a team-centric focus.
“Just leading my team to more wins,” Akins said when asked about what he wants to continue to work on this summer.
