AE5 Gold 16U is playing up in the 17 division this weekend at Best of the South. They started out slow on Thursday to open the event, but 2025 Gaston (AL) point guard Mica Merriman helped the team get going in the second half.

The 6-foot-2 floor general went on a run with some nice passes that led to easy buckets for teammates. Merriman did a nice job of showcasing his value as a point guard and his high basketball IQ.

It’s still early for rising juniors, but Merriman has generated some college interest. Jacksonville State, Western Carolina, and Yale have all reached out and made contact to this point. 

Merriman has been invited to Yale’s elite camp at the beginning of Yale.
