Open Workouts: Volume I
Prospects are always looking for time in the gym. In this article, I visited North Broward Prep for open workouts. We will have more open run recaps to follow in the coming weeks.
Let's breakdown the afternoon.
2024 Enrico Borio was the most multi-skilled prospect on the floor. The 6-foot-8 wing can do it all, from driving off the baseline and finishing above the rim to shooting the three ball with confidence. Borio's shot to the perimeter appears much improved. He also looked fluid and agile as a face-up shooter in the paint and around the key. More so, he showed good footwork. Borio played as a point forward/wing and handled the ball well in open space. Moreover, he was strong in transition and has a natural spring. For his time and movement on the court, Borio's conditioning was up to task. Very impressive.
2024 Emin Kara is a power forward/center with upside. The 6-foot-10 prospect has a big, burly frame to be effective in the paint. Kara utilized a jump hook with his back to the rim and used his frame to finish near the basket off putbacks. He appears to have plenty of power and strength to bulldoze his way to the basket.Kara also has a bit of a short, face-up floater in the paint. While showing ability on the second chance, his capability to score off an initial touch could improve. Kara also will square up a bit and shoot from the top of the key. With his size, he can also set screens/picks along the outside. Kara could be more nimble/light on his feet as an offensive player. More so, his post moves/footwork should only improve as he becomes better conditioned. In addition, this will help him get back on defense and be a better two-way player.
2026 Ryan Baxley had a good showing out of the backcourt. The 5-foot-10 combo guard is a shifty prospect with a strong handle. Baxley has a strong first step and twitch off his initial move. He also shot the ball well from the perimeter. Baxley's facilitation and awareness as a primary ball handler set up his teammates for effective opportunities. He also holds a 4.4 GPA. Baxley is a prospect to watch moving forward. Other 2026's to watch are 6-foot-1 guard Jayden Smith, 6-foot-4 guard Samuel Cano, and Francesco Borio. This class has a mixture of athleticism and length that should help North Broward Prep's overall depth.
2024 Raul Perez Ruiz is a talented guard with length. The 6-foot-5 prospect is athletic in open space and in transition where he will finish off the fast break. Ruiz also has a quick release off his stationary shot. Moreover, he can put the ball on the floor and create space on his perimeter attempts. Also, Perez Ruiz is wiry driving to the rim and showed he can finish.
2023 Ryan Weiss is already a strong outside shooter. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard can pull up on a dime and connect from deep. Today, I thought Weiss was strong off the dribble and as a passer. Specifically, his awareness to find teammates off the drive on the perimeter was routine and effective. Weiss is headed to St. Andrew's (RI) as a post grad.
