2023 Atlanta Jam 16U Standouts
SUWANEE, Ga—We’re in the midst of an Atlanta Jam deep dive, and we’ve spent a lot of time in the 17U division so far—such is the case during the first live period event—but we have notes on the 16U division as well, and that’s what we’re here to talk about.
These guys aren’t going to get much of a recruiting spotlight yet—the time is coming—but this weekend was still valuable in building those stories out and getting more data on guys we’re familiar with and adding new names to our scouting reports.
From what we got to take in, these were some of the standouts from the 16U division.
It was another successful weekend for the 16U Tigers. A 3-1 Atlanta Jam follows a strong opening weekend at Bama Jam. Gunnar Lewis was an eye-catcher for our staff. He was consistently one of the leading scorers on the team and dished impressive dimes to his teammates. This Tennessee Tigers team has balance and depth. It’s not hard to see why they’re off to a great start to the season.
Heze Kent has quickly become a HoopSeen favorite this spring. I think that every member of the staff has enjoyed watching him at some point already, and it’s easy to see why. A 2026 playing up in 16U, Kent is a beast in the paint. He has his hands on every rebound on both ends. South Georgia Elite is all about defense, and a great way to keep your opponents’ points low while boosting your own is to have a monster rebounder. Kent is that guy. He limits opponents’ shots while securing extra shots for his team. He also has great touch around the basket. - Josh Tec
Cam Williams had a bit of a breakout weekend. Multiple staff members got to see him on the Auburn Raptors’ run to the US Open Qualifier game, and everyone seemed to have jotted his name down for the future. He’s a bucket-getter plain and simple. The 5-foot-10 guard put up 19 points and 25 points in back-to-back games on Sunday, and he did so in a variety of ways. From the 3-points line, at the rim, drawing fouls and hitting free throws, Williams found ways to get points on the board.
Johnson came up big when the lights were brightest. He led 4EO to winning the 16U US Open Qualifier with a clutch performance in the championship game. Johnson led with 13 points which included three 3-pointers. One of the easiest ways to get noticed is to win and Johnson did just that at Atlanta Jam.
I haven't checked the actual records, but this Norcross Heat team doesn’t seem to lose many games. A guy that drives a lot of their success is Jamari Mosely. He’s been having a big spring so far. It’s an every weekend occurrence with him. He just consistently delivers. He led this Norcross Heat team to an undefeated weekend and capped things off with a 31-point game. Mosely can score in bunches and in multiple ways. He’s also got good size at the guard spot and plays a gritty style on defense. - Josh Tec
