2023 Bama Jam 16U Standouts
HOOVER, Al—The 2025 class was well-represented in the Finley Center for Bama Jam. There are plenty of 16U guys that coaches should start to get eyes on early during the upcoming live periods that starred over the past weekend. Here are five of the standouts from the division.
I got into it a little bit with my notebook on Friday night, but I love watching Barksdale play. The 6-foot point guard is a true floor general and extension of the coach on the floor. He excels in pick-and-roll situations, making the correct decision each time. Barksdale’s pace, ball-handling and passing are all top qualities, but he’s proven that he can score it, too. The sophomore did a nice job of mixing things up with his perimeter shooting and scoring at the rim. - Garrett Tucker
Big man Josh Bowman picked up an offer from Alabama Huntsville over the weekend, and it’s not hard to see why schools are jumping on him early. He anchors the post on both ends of the floor. Bowman protected the rim this weekend with his length, hustle and defensive instinct. He’s a worker on the court and will make his presence felt on the glass. Bowman converted several dunks on the weekend and was a consistent scoring threat in the post. Look for his stock to continue to rise in Alabama. - Josh Tec
Rodney Henderson, Tennessee Tigers: I know that I’m going to find a prospect of note when I sit down to take in a Tennessee Tigers game, and Rodney Henderson became that guy for me this weekend. The 6-foot, 2025 PG was as consistent as anyone in the 16U division. He averaged double figures for the weekend and led them to a championship game appearance. He’s shifty on offense and gets to his spots well. Henderson is a lefty but can finish with either hand at the rim. Of course, if you play for a Chip Smith team, you better play some defense, and Henderson is a tough, pesky guard on that end. - Josh Tec
I’ll be honest, Barksdale has surfed under my radar up to this point. Nevertheless, the 6-foot-4 guard made quite the opening impression this weekend, particularly on Sunday during Pro One’s championship game against the Tennessee Tigers. The Vestavia Hills (AL) product came out hot and scored 13 quick points to set the tone for his team. Barksdale is a perfect example of a dribble, pass, shoot guy. I’ll be tracking him closely going forward.
Stovall continues to be a super scorer for SP Elite for the last couple of years. He kept that going at Bama Jam over the weekend. He’s a guard who always finds his way to the rim to score, get fouled, or both. He’s been consistent with his output. Every time I see him, he produces. He should be someone that continues to rise over the spring and summer. - Josh Tec
