2023 HoopSeen Tip-Off: 16U Standouts III
SUWANEE, Ga—Continuing to flesh out notes from Tip-Off weekend, these are more names to know from the 16U division.
A guy that has popped up on our radar as a player to watch recently has been Brandon Lanier. On a talented Norcross Heat team, Lanier impressed members of the HoopSeen staff that hadn’t been aware of him. He’s got the tools to have a breakout at some point in the future. A 6-foot-6 forward, Lanier can thrive around the basket, and we’ve seen him show off range from the 3-point line in the past as well. He has good feet and a developable skill set that has a strong foundation. - Josh Tec
Cal Faulkner was one of the eye-openers of the weekend. He impressed with his general control of the game. At the PG spot, he plays with pace and poise and can dish dimes while scoring from all levels. He didn’t drop eye-popping numbers, but he was clearly one of the best players whenever he was on the floor. - Josh Tec
Cole is coming off of a state championship, and during that run, he played some of his best basketball. He’s kept it going now that he’s beginning the travel season. Cole is a guy who’s going to hit shots. He’s a 3-point threat that’s capable of changing a game from beyond the arc. He’s also a smart player. Cole takes what the game gives to him on both ends of the floor. - Josh Tec
Perry has tremendous upside. We’ve known that for a little while now. He has a next-level frame to build on, and he has foundational skill to go with it. Only a freshman, Perry had some bright moments playing up an age group. He impressed the most via his impact on defense. Perry is long and disruptive on that end. He has a high ceiling on offense as well. Young players with his frame seldom can put the ball on the floor with the dexterity that Perry can. The scary thing is that we haven’t even seen anything close to the best that he has to offer yet. - Josh Tec
This was as balanced of a 4-0 weekend as there was. This weekend was one that got our attention, and a player to watch from this team is Ethan Kinyua. He’s a strong defensive presence, and he’s capable of getting hot from a scoring standpoint.
