With only three games left in 4A, the teams will make their way to Fort Valley State for the final four. 

Per usual, this classification saw plenty of the top teams get picked off along the march to Macon, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t getting great games. 

From the Atlanta metro to the coast to the southern part of the state, the whole of Georgia is going to be battling for a spot inside the Macon Centreplex. 

Let’s take a quick look at 4A’s final four. 

Pace vs Westover 

Pace is one of the state’s blue bloods. When national writers talk to us about Georgia, Pace is a team they always inquire about. They have the talent again, and they’ve been all over the world testing themselves against top teams from around the country. 

While Pace has the pedigree and draws eyeballs from those outside the state, Westover is a team in South Georgia that just wins. Last year, the Patriots made it to Macon to play in the 4A championship game. On the way, they beat the favored McDonough team in the final four. Does that sound familiar? If so, it’s because Westover beat the favored McDonough team this year in the elite eight to earn a date with Pace in the final four. 

There’s a chance that Westover can unseat another top team to earn a spot in Macon, but getting through the Pace Academy Knights is a task easier said than done.

JT’s pick: Westover is tough! They win this time of year. Sharman White has won a lot on the march to Macon. Pace has the talent edge, they have the history, and they’ve played in the toughest region in 4A all season. Because of that, I have the Knights advancing to Macon.

Benedictine vs Fayette County

Benedictine has put the state on notice from down on the coast. The Cadets have mowed through their tournament schedule by winning games by an average of 18 points per game. 

Fayette County lost a super talent when Kaleb Banks graduated and went to Bloomington and went to be a Hoosier. Despite losing a guy like that, the Tigers are still as good as ever. It’s mostly because guys like RJ Kennedy have stepped up and carried the torch. Kennedy in particular has been spectacular this postseason. He’s the kind of player that can propel the Tigers to a championship.

JT’s pick: Benedictine has been one of the fun stories to follow this tournament. There are always teams from the Savannah area that make runs, but it hasn’t been any of the ones we expected. While Benedictine’s story is a great one, RJ Kennedy has been on another level for Fayette County, and I think he’s going to lead them to Macon.
