My car was completely covered in pollen this week, it’s difficult to breathe, and that means one thing, the march to Macon is coming to a close! We’re at one of the last stops, the final four. 6A saw some incredible games in the elite eight. The four elite eight games in 6A were decided by a total of 10 points. No game was won by more than four points. 

The competition was of the utmost caliber to say the least. If the final four is as good as the elite eight, one bag of popcorn won’t be enough for the show. 

Here’s a quick snapshot of the 6A final four games. 

Lanier vs Lee County

Lee County isn’t a stranger to being in this spot. Only a couple of seasons ago, the Trojans hosted a final four game against the last Scoot Henderson team at Kell. Lee County nearly won that game too. All that is to go to say that while they might not have the star power that Lanier has, Lee County isn’t going to be an easy out. This is a program that has faced the best of the best before. 

Lanier has operated as one of the best teams in 6A this season. Osmar Garcia, Jayce Nathaniel and Tahai Morgan make up a three-headed monster that is going to be difficult for anyone to contend with. Just ask the reigning 6A champs, Grovetown, because Lanier unseated them en route to this point. 

JT’s pick: Lee County has had a good run, but Lanier is a different animal. The Longhorns have skill at the forward spots that will be difficult for Lee County to contend with. Now that Lanier has dispatched Grovetown, they’re one of the favorites to win it all. 

Alexander vs Etowah 

This should be quite the coaching chess match. Both of these programs are anchored by smart guys in the captain’s chair. 

Both were final four favorites in the preseason, and they’ve made us look smart by getting here. In doing so, they both picked up 54-53 wins in the elite eight. That anomaly means that the first to 54 in this game wins. Just call the game at that point. If regulation ends before a team hits 54, we have to hit OT. Game ends at 54 no matter what. That’s the rule. 

Brandon Rechsteiner, Mason Etter and Dimitri Angelakos combined for 48 points in Etowah’s elite eight win. Slowing that trio will be paramount for Alexander. 

It should be a battle of styles when these two lock up for a spot in the 6A championship. 

JT’s pick: This is another battle between Atlanta Allstars teammates. This time, Brandon Rechsteiner and Mason Etter will be going against Noah Melson. Those are just some fun side notes to add intrigue to an already interesting matchup. Etowah has the advantage from beyond the arc, but Alexander gets checks under the athleticism and size boxes. I’m picking the Cougars to get this one done, but it’s not an easy choice to make.
