In a dominant win to open Paul VI’s City of Palms tournament, junior forward Garrett Sundra stole the show.

Despite playing limited minutes due to the lopsided score, Sundra led the Panthers with 11 points and showed that his star is on the rise.

“I was running the court really well, got some dunks on the fast break, and my teammates were hitting me up the court,” Sundra said of his successful outing.

Virginia Tech, Maryland, Butler, Iowa and Miami are among the schools that have reached out and extended offers to the 6-foot-11 Sundra.

“They like the way I space the game,” Sundra said about his discussions with coaches. “Last year, I was more of the five. I was more around the basket, but this year, I’m stepping out, I can really shoot the three more, I’m trying to put the ball on the ground a little bit more, so I think that they’re trying to use that.”

Recently, Sundra has visited Maryland, Virginia Tech and Butler.

Sundra on the programs he’s visited

Maryland: “It was cool. I liked all of the coaches. I like Coach Willard and what he’s doing with the program right now. They’re starting off really strong.”

Virginia Tech: “They shoot a lot of threes. I like what Coach Young is doing this year as well. I like how Justyn Mutts is playing.”

Butler: “I like how they use their four man a lot, and they shoot a lot of threes as well.”

The process is still playing out for Sundra, so he’s in no rush to make a decision.

“I’m giving it some time,” Sundra said. “Before the next school year, I’ll cut my list down.”

Paul VI has made plenty of noise already this season, and they look like one of the favorites in the City of Palms field. Garrett Sundra is in the midst of a breakout season that could see him rise to top-100 status.

His recruitment is off and running, and it could continue to heat up with as well as he’s been playing.
