Updating our Tennessee class of 2021 player rankings

After a condensed summer and a fortunate flurry of events, we’ve had a good sampling of on-court action to do a much-needed update to our Tennessee class of 2021 player rankings.

Our Tennessee hoops maven Andre Whitehead of TN Prep Hoops checks in with his rankings in today’s update.

LOOKING INSIDE THE TOP 5

Jonathan Lawson of Memphis Wooddale maintains his spot at the very top of the list. The 6-foot-7 wing has been a staple at the top of these rankings for a couple of years now. He remains at the top spot.

Marquette commit Kameron Jones of Memphis ECS is our No. 2 overall player in these updated rankings. The 6-foot-4 guard is one of the toughest guards in the Southeast.

Coming in at No. 3 overall is Mason Miller. The 6-foot-7 forward from Germantown Houston is one of the best stretch forwards in the nation and can change the game with his shooting touch.

Hamilton Heights has added the size of Bretner Mutumbo to the roster. The well-traveled big man comes in at No. 4 overall in our latest rankings for Tennessee’s 2021 class.

South Alabama commitment Alex Anderson of Millington Tipton-Rosemark comes in at No. 5 overall.

OFF THE BOARD

There are five players in the rankings who are currently committed to a school. They are:

No. 2 Kameron Jones to Marquette
No. 5 Alex Anderson to South Alabama
No. 7 Grant Slatten to Ole Miss
No. 8 Jaylen Pegues to Furman
No. 20 Matthew Schneider to Missouri Western

POSITIONAL BREAKDOWN IN THE TOP 40

Here’s a snapshot of the positions that make up the list for our top players in Georgia’s 2021 class:

Point Guards: 16
Shooting Guards: 12
Small Forwards: 5
Power Forwards: 5
Centers: 2

OUTBOUND PLAYERS

There were a number players in Tennessee’s class of 2021 who have left the state. Had these players stayed in the Vol State, we would have included them in our state rankings. The top 10 had a major shift as Tennessee commitment Kennedy Chandler moved out of state to Sunrise Christian. So did Hamilton Heights guard Dominique Penn, who joins Chandler in Kanas. Drew Williams also left Hamilton Heights for Scotland Campus Sports in PA.  Aiden Applewhite, a Memphis native, is now in Arizona at Compass Prep.
