Three sleepers to watch from Georgia's 2019 class
The class of 2019 is now officially in the books and the state of Georgia has a terrific college-bound group going to on to play basketball. Here are my three instant impact players that you should be taking notice of in the winter when college basketball starts to ramp up.
RELATED: Final 2019 Georgia rankings
Lance Terry, Heritage School to Gardner Webb
The 6-foot-3 guard checks in at No. 12 overall in our final Georgia rankings and I love everything about that. Truthfully, he could be a top 10 player in the class based on a number of things.
1. He’s uber-talented. Terry had a tremendous senior season, winning a state title. He’s one of the best scorers in the class and one of the best players in the class in the entire Southeast that no one talks about enough.
2. He’s going to a place where he can play and develop on the court. Terry could be All-Freshman team selection for the Bulldogs.
I wouldn’t be shocked if he was a 10 point per game scorer and one of the best shooters in the Big South right away. Terry is my steal of the class of 2019 coming out Georgia.
Kendall Lewis, Shiloh to Appalachian State
Last year Dustin Kerns came to the state of Georgia and landed Adam Flagler to Presbyterian. That was a steal 12 months ago. Flagler proved as much with his Big South Freshman of the Year play. Both Kerns and Flagler are now gone. Kerns is the head man at App State and Flagler is transferring to Baylor.
Fast forward to modern day and Kerns had another huge signing late with Lewis. The 6-foot-6 forward from Shiloh had a terrific senior season and played well in the spring with the Atlanta Xpress.
Lewis, our No. 16 rated player in the class of 2019 in Georgia, is trending in the right direction as he enters into college and there is a chance to play right away for the Mountaineers. With “steals”, it always depends on timing and opportunity. Lewis found it at App State. And Kerns hopes he struck gold two years in a row in the Peach State.
Armani Harris, Newton to Kennesaw State
For years, the Atlanta basketball community has been saying something in this tune - “if Kennesaw landed a good local player, they could be really good.” That conversation has been repeated time and time again.
Well, new had coach Amir Abdur-Rahim may have done just that since taking over the job. Harris was a perfect addition for the new coaching staff.
Harris had a terrific senior season and picked the Owls after an active recruitment down the home stretch. He’s a tough guy inside and the perfect type of big man that shines in the Atlantic Sun.
Every player that played for Rick Rasmussen has succeeded in college, whatever the level. Newton players are always well-prepared for the next level. Harris certainly is. That should help him as he more than likely competes for starter’s minutes right out of the gate as a freshman.
