Unveiling our top 35 Georgia 2017 rankings
The class of 2017 is one of the deepest we’ve seen in the state of Georgia over the last decade.
After a busy July with the Best of the South, Peach Jam, the Las Vegas events and plenty of evaluations, we are excited to release our post-summer rankings for this talented bunch.
SAME NAMES, DIFFERENT SEATS AT THE TABLE
Wendell Carter has long stood at the top of these Georgia rankings and won’t be budging any time soon. He’s our national No. 1 player for the class of 2017 and we feel quite strong about that position.
From there, things shift around some. Colin Sexton (Pebblebrook) slides into the No. 2 spot overall and is one of our top 10 players nationally. He’s the biggest rising player in the class of 2017 in the country.
At No. 3 is Jonesboro’s MJ Walker. No one is bigger fans of Walker than our team at HoopSeen.com. The Jonesboro wing would be the No. 1 player in nearly every other state in the country.

BIGGEST RISERS
Evan Cole had a monster July with the Atlanta All-Stars and is one of the South’s hottest mid-major big man. The South Forsyth power forward checks in at No. 15 overall. He was ranked No. 26 overall going into the summer.
His travel teammate Javon Greene jumps back into the top 35, checking in at No. 17 overall after sliding out in our last release. The Henry County point guard looked the best we have ever seen from him in July with the All-Stars.
Josh Linder of Veterans HS/Smyrna Stars comes in at No. 24 overall. Truthfully, we may have him still too low. We will be watching him closely this high school season because we didn’t see enough of him in July. But college coaches did and plenty have offered from all levels.
We’ve always liked David Quimby from Albany and we look forward to seeing more of him this high school season. He’s left South Georgia and enrolled at Greenforest Christian. Quimby checks in at No. 29 overall.
OTHER NOTABLES
Currently, there are seven players in the top 35 that are committed to a school. Wheeler’s Darius Perry is the latest to pop. He committed to Louisville on Tuesday.
There are at least 14 players that will sign with a high-major school. That mark ranks among the best in the country for home grown talent.
The depth at the non-major level is outstanding, too. There are number of players that will find homes at schools in one-bid conferences and should help push their respective teams to post-season goals.
