2025 Recruiting Snapshot: Marcus Gillespie discusses early interest
2025 guard Marcus Gillespie has a knack for generating buzz when he hits the floor. Whether it was with Clarke Central (GA) during the high school team camps in June or with Classic City Ballers Blue at HoopSeen’s Best of the South, Gillespie can put on a show.
Western Carolina, Ole Miss, Georgia, Kennesaw State and Tennessee Tech are among the schools that have reached out since the direct contact period opened up in June.
It’s not hard to see what has garnered him early interest when he puts on 28-point performances like the one he did to close Saturday of Best of the South.
Gillespie is one of the most naturally gifted scorers in Georgia’s crop of rising juniors, but he wants to show off more of his game to potential suitors at the next level.
“[He wants to show coaches] How athletic I am on both sides of the ball,” Gillespie said. “I’m not just a scorer even though that’s one of my strong suits. I’m just as good as a defender, and I play with high-energy. I love playing with my teammates, and I’m a good passer.”
Gillespie’s acumen for distributing the ball has been on full-display this summer. He makes high-level reads and dishes the ball with either hand.
While his game has proven to be advanced enough for coaches to take notice, Gillespie has some refinements he wants to make during his remaining two years in high school.
“I’m definitely trying to use my size a little bit more,” Gillespie said. “I just want to have a prospect body by the time I get to my senior year.”
Decision time is a long ways away, but Gillespie is beginning to get a sense for what he’s looking for at the next level.
“I just want to go to a school that I feel comfortable at,” Gillespie said. “I just want to feel like I’m at home.”
