Prospect Watch: Dennis "DJ" Alderman
We're back in Jacksonville with another prospect profile. Northeast Florida has some great players compared to the rest of the state. This time, I would like to highlight 2027 Dennis "DJ" Alderman.
Alderman, a 5-foot-6 point guard, is an upcoming freshman at Hilliard High School and plays with the Hilliard Heat on the circuit. He should be an impact player on the varsity level in the fall.
HoopSean Breakdown:
Alderman's skill set begins with his handle. He is ambidextrous and quick in motion, both vertically and horizontally. This helps Alderman in a halfcourt set where he can facilitate or score downhill off the drive. Therefore, he should be able to maintain tempo and control the offense over the course of a game. Certainly, Alderman has an edge in this area, and given his class, has an advanced understanding of how to play point guard. He also already has some experience on the varsity level.
Don't count out his size. Alderman has learned to finish near the rim and has a smooth jumper. Also, you can expect him to grow over time. For now, Alderman is perfecting his scoring ability near the basket with his current size. It should only become easier for him to be effective as he grows.
Defensively, his athleticism and shiftiness should make him strong against the ball. Alderman has a good read and feel for the game, partly carried over from his awareness on the offensive end. You can expect tough pressure and steals from him in this area.
You can usually find Alderman in the gym with coach Myron Saunders. With his work ethic, he could be one of the top players and contributors on the varsity level.
