HoopSeenW Player Profile: Diana Collins

Diana Collins is one of the top players in the state of Georgia. The 2023 guard out of Brookwood High School has been highly regarded as a top player around the state since her freshman season where she was putting up impressive numbers and loading up on college offers. Collins said she began playing at a young age, but realized in middle school that she had serious potential.

When watching her play, it is fairly easy to see why she had a number of high major programs getting in early. At 5-foot-9, she is a smooth, confident lead guard that can break defenders down off the dribble and knock down shots from the perimeter at a high clip. Collins is one of those dynamic players that can score it from just about anywhere on the floor and throw some absolute dimes when the defense attempts to collapse on her.

"I have the ability to score on all three levels," Collins said. I can see the floor very well and make others around me better. I like to defend too."

Holding offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Miami, and West Virginia among others, the junior decided to end her recruitment last month when she committed to Joni Taylor and the University of Georgia.

"Georgia was ultimately the best fit for me as a player and plays to my strengths," she said. "It just felt like the right place and is also a great academic school."

With her speed combined with her ability to score the ball, distribute, and defend, Collins should be a great fit to pair with the 2021 and 2022 classes Georgia was able to sign.

While I had seen different clips and highlights of her game, I finally got to watch her in person last month at The Deep South Classic where she led her team to a championship and earned MVP honors. What stood out first to me was the confidence she steps on the court with which is something you can't teach. She plays at a good tempo and does not let the defense speed her up or force her into bad decisions; she has a lot of the tools you want to see out of a point guard. Her ability to easily create space off the dribble adds yet another dynamic to her offensive arsenal, too.

Collins currently has Brookwood at 16-3 on the season and sitting at the top of the 7-7A region standings at 4-0. As far as the remainder of the season, she has some goals she wants to achieve such as going deep in the state tournament and continuing to improve on her game. More specifically, she stated she wants to reach 2,000 points in her high school career which is very likely to happen sooner than later considering the numbers she is capable of putting up. Looking ahead to the summer, Collins said she is looking forward to playing in the FIBA U20 for the Swedish National Team.
