HoopSeen/@BeTheBeastBTB Always Live Showcase Spotlight: Colin Porter
Colin Porter is a true point guard.
With his high energy, elite court vision and smart decision-making, Porter was the driving force for EAB Tennessee 16U in a 68-52 win over Game Elite at the Be The Beast Always Live Showcase. The 5-foot-11 guard scored 10 points in the game to go along with a handful of assists, rebounds, and a crowd-pleasing block on an attempted dunk by the opposing team’s center.
With the exception of dunking (no roast intended), he can truly do it all. He showed the ability to finish acrobatic layups with both hands, create space for himself with the ball in his hands, and a clean jumper to top it off. But it’s clear when Porter is on the court he puts a premium on finding his teammates for open shots.
“I try to get everybody involved,” Porter said. “I love my teammates and passing the ball.”
The rising sophomore at Ashland (KY) started at point guard as a freshman, helping lead the team to a 33-0 record in his first year with the varsity squad. Unfortunately, their run at a state championship was tragically cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With nearly a year left before coaches can begin contacting Porter, his recruitment hasn’t quite taken off yet. Porter is like a simmering pot ready to blow the lid off and start mapping out where he will play college basketball.
“I’m ready to start [the recruitment process], but I just have to work every day until that time comes,” Porter said.
He said there have been a few Big Ten schools and some schools in Tennessee that have reached out to his coaches, so his phone will likely be lighting up with texts and calls from college coaches come next June.
