Player evaluations from the HoopSeen Academy camps Part V

After a long break from the hardwood, there was an excitement in the air as 72 prospects from across the southeast converged to Suwannee Sports Academy. Our HoopSeen Academy featured prospects from every high school classification and gave us several memorable moments through the course of two days. Here is part V of our player evaluations.

Jevon Jacobs, 2021 G, Archer: Another Archer guard with the ability to guard, weak ball handlers were set straight whenever they tried to penetrate. Using his good sized frame and even better strength, Jacobs was able to seal off the paint as an individual defender. On the offensive end his strength was a factor as well as he was able to fend off oncoming shot blockers.

Malcolm Lovett, 2021 G, Pedro Menendez: Lovett's activity and length played a major factor defensively. He made great use of his tremendous wingspan as both an on and off the ball defender. Some guys guard their position but Lovett was one of the few prospects in the building that could disrupt theirs.

Le'Tarion White, 2021 W, Jefferson Davis: While a ankle sprain limited White in some instances, when fully active his athleticism was on full display. In transition he made his mark as one of the most active players that was in the building. His tenacity as a rebounder also led to more opportunities to show his true ability to push and start the break. In an uptempo game, White will be able to best showcase his skill set.

Donta Ernest, 2022 G, Elizabethton: Donta Ernest found a way to make himself known throughout his ability to create plays with his high motor. While some players give up on the action, Ernest would often find himself well in the thick of rebounds and 50/50 balls. His energy was contagious and forced those that trailed to catch up with his efforts.

Chase Hill, 2023 G, Rockdale: If there was a young prospect that I'm excited to track it would have to be Rockdale guard Chase Hill. Without knowing his classification his ability to control the game would've made me think that he was a rising senior. Very few players at camp were able to control the pace in the same way that Hill was. From putting guys on his hip to moving the ball around, Hill displayed several quality skills from the point guard position.

Jaden Benefiel, 2022 W, Marion County: A very physical defender with the ability to guard multiple spots. Benefiels coach had full confidence in him as an island defender that could be left alone one on one. As a team defender he was equally affective as he was aware enough to rotate and close off drives.

Graham Nies, 2023 F, Creekside Christian: One of the more active prospects on the glass was able to make a name for himself with very little scoring. Nies always gave effort and contributed with a ton of energy on the glass. For such a young prospect, his approach to the game provided a needed breath of fresh air. As he grow both mentally and physically, Nies could be a player who's motor carries him a long way.

Bricen Smith, 2023 W/F, Fayetteville County: Smith was one of the most impressive young prospects in the building from a size and skill stand point. Running the floor and setting screens was the highlight of his game although he made good use with his ability to catch and finish. His best ball is well ahead of him given his current trajectory.

Justin Young, 2021 G, Creekside Christian: Smarts, finishing, and shot making ability were all seen from the rising senior this weekend. Without forcing any bad shots, Young was able to make his mark as an outside threat. Once defenses were aware of his outside ability, Young would attack the closeouts and finish with either hand in the paint. It was a very nice, well rounded display from a prospect that knows how to play the game.
