Bob #Gibbons Tournament of Champions Spotlight: Keondre Montgomery
Rasheed Wallace was a coach at the Nike Elite 100 camp last summer in St. Louis, Missouri. The former NBA big man was a player ahead of his time, showing how players of his size can stretch the floor with their perimeter game.
Wallace was one of the pioneers in the modern day big man. He made a living as a face-up shooter on the wing. At the camp, he worked closely with young big man. His mentorship was fun to watch play out.
There were times when he sat down with Mississippi’s Keondre Montgomery and worked one-on-one with the 6-foot-7 forward from the 2020 class.
Fast forward to last weekend at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions and the MEBO forward was playing in a way that would put a smile on Wallace’s face. Montgomery scored at will on the wing and he’s done so all spring for the Nike EYBL team.
At the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, Montgomery was one of the toughest players to guard all weekend long. Montgomery averaged 16 points a game and connected on a dozen three-pointers over the course of five games.
Montgomery is ranked 197 nationally in the 247 Sports Composite rankings. That’s about 100 spots too low. He’s one of the most versatile offensive players in the class.
On the recruiting front, Montgomery said he has offers from Auburn, Clemson, Seton Hall, Tulsa, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He told our Justin Byerly that Auburn, Clemson and Seton Hall are his top three.
