Austin Peay lands Alec Woodard: What are they getting?

One of Georgia's best shooters is off the board as Austin Peay got a verbal commitment from Morgan County|Atlanta Celtics guard Alec Woodard.

Now that his recruitment is over, its time to evaluate what type of player is entering the Ohio Valley Conference. A quick look at his history and you will see a player that has made his name from well behind the arc.

His poise and demeanor are that of a player that's never rattled by a moment. Quiet in nature and deadly in approach, Woodard showed up in big moments during his stellar junior season for Morgan County. Those in tune with Woodard's style of play will point out his deadeye shooting that comes off his fingers the same way every shot. In his junior season, he proved capable of scoring in waves both on and off the ball. His ability to shoot off the bounce shouldn't go unnoted as he posses the same range regardless of scenario. Leading up into his first year in Clarksville, Woodard will need to continue to sharpen his ball handling skills as he may be best suited for some combo guard responsibilities.

Size wont be an issue at the next level as he has the height and stature of an average guard in the OVC. Woodard is a two-way player that has never been looked at as a defensive liability. In fact, being a serviceable defender along with his shooting should always hold steady value. Those two things alone should make him a tough out as Austin Peay head coach Matt Figgers pieces together future rotations.
