Iowa State stays hot, adds commitment from Haliburton
Iowa State got on the board in 2018 last week by landing a commitment from Zion Griffin. The Cyclones struck again Monday evening, as 2018 Oshkosh (WI) North combo guard Tyrese Haliburton announced his commitment to the Big 12 bunch.
"I love the coaching staff at Iowa State," Haliburton told HoopSeen.com. "With the great success Coach [Steve] Prohm has had with point guards, I know I can be successful there."
Heading into the July evaluation period, Haliburton was a mid-major priority for programs across the Midwest. However, after a strong showing in the summer, a handful of high-major programs jumped on board with scholarship offers. The Wisconsin native ultimately chose the Cyclones over scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, and Minnesota.
Haliburton, a versatile 6-foot-5 combo guard, impressed at the Powerade Platform stop in Nashville at the end of May. Capable of playing on or off the ball, he showed impressive ball skills and vision. Haliburton also shot the ball very well from behind the arc. At Iowa State, Haliburton will be effective with his versatility and should be able to play across the perimeter.
"Coach Prohm has a really good reputation with point guards like Isaiah Canaan, Cameron Payne, and most recently, Monte Morris. It's a place I know I can thrive in."
With commitment from Haliburton and Griffin, Iowa State has landed two underrated prospects that emerged during July. They will now turn their eyes toward Tyler Harris and George Conditt.
